The Board of the National Union of Students in Finnish Universities of Applied Sciences – SAMOK has appointed , Bachelor of Administrative Sciences, as the union’s new Executive Director. He will take up his post on 31 August.
The Executive Director is responsible for managing SAMOK’s operational activities, finances and office, as well as supporting the Board in achieving the union’s strategic goals. The recruitment particularly emphasised financial management expertise, leadership experience, and a vision for developing SAMOK’s activities.
Niemi joins SAMOK from his position as Executive Director of Laureamko, the student union of Laurea University of Applied Sciences. Prior to this, he has, among other things, coordinated the previous parliamentary election campaign at SAMOK, covered a vacancy as an education policy adviser at SAMOK, and worked at Nuorisoala ry and HUMAKO, the student union of Humak University of Applied Sciences.
“In difficult times, the importance of advocacy is highlighted. Therefore, it feels particularly meaningful to lead SAMOK at a time when education faces major pressure from funding cuts, and the voice and community of students are needed more than ever. The student movement has given me the opportunity to grow, learn and make an impact together with others, and I look forward to doing this work now for the benefit of the entire student union field,” says Niemi.
