Events, trainings and communication
Businesses

Kide.app is an online store for students, which keeps a register of student-friendly merchants and sells, for example, tickets to events and products that are relevant to student life. SAMOK collaborates with Kide.app in connection with events, for example.

OSS Services for Organisations is a limited company run by three national independent unions for higher education students in Finland: the Finnish Student Sports Federation (OLL), the Union of Students in Finnish Universities of Applied Sciences (SAMOK) and the National Union of University Students in Finland (SYL). The company is headquartered in the centre of Helsinki and provides services such as property management, administration and ICT.

REKOM is Northern Europe’s largest nightlife company. REKOM has partnered with SAMOK in connection with events, for example.

Slice.fi is Finland’s largest student benefit service. The digital Slice student card was launched in 2018 to promote student welfare. SAMOK collaborates with Slice.fi in connection with events.

Studentum.fi is Finland’s largest search engine for education. SAMOK collaborates with Studentum.fi in connection with, for example, the annual digital higher education fair Hae korkeakouluun.

Timetravels is a Finland-based tour operator that specialises in group travel to Scandinavia (Lapland, Finland, Iceland, Norway, Sweden) and the Baltics. SAMOK collaborates with Timetravels in connection with events, for example.

Viking Line is an Åland-based Finnish shipping company that operates in the Baltic Sea. Viking Line is SAMOK’s longstanding partner in organising our annual Kick-off Cruise.
Education advocacy

The Rectors’ Council of Universities of Applied Sciences Arene ry is an advocate and influencer of higher education policy and a forum for cooperation between universities of applied sciences. SAMOK works closely with Arene in the development of polytechnic education.

EOL – the Finnish Diverse Learners’ Association – provides advice on learning difficulties as well as peer support, training and events for diverse learners and professionals working with diverse learners. SAMOK works closely with EOL.

The Finnish Education Evaluation Centre (FINEEC) is an independent supervisory body responsible for evaluating the standard of education and providers of education from early childhood education and care all the way to higher education as well as for providing information for education policymakers to improve the standard of education nationwide. SAMOK supports FINEEC’s efforts to improve the standard of education.

The Ministry of Education and Culture is the central government department responsible for education, culture, sports, youth work and church affairs in Finland. SAMOK works in close cooperation with the Ministry of Education and Culture.

The Finnish National Agency for Education keeps a register of student admissions in upper secondary, vocational and higher education institutions, offers language examinations, funds and organises further training for teachers and other personnel in the field of education and coordinates the recognition of foreign qualifications. SAMOK collaborates with the National Agency for Education in these contexts.
Student welfare, financial support and housing

The Finnish Association for Substance Abuse Prevention (EHYT) is a nationwide expert organisation in substance abuse and gambling addiction in Finland. SAMOK is a member of EHYT.

The Social Insurance Institution of Finland (Kela) is the government agency responsible for the social security of people living in Finland in different life situations. SAMOK collaborates with Kela in questions related to the social benefits of students.

MIELI Mental Health Finland has as its core mission the promotion of mental health and the prevention of mental health issues. SAMOK collaborates with the organisation in these contexts.

Nyyti ry is a non-governmental organisation that promotes mental health and coping among students through the provision of, for example, peer support. SAMOK is a member of the organisation.

The Ministry of Social Affairs and Health is the central government department responsible for planning, coordinating and implementing Finland’s social and health policy. SAMOK works in close cooperation with the Ministry of Social Affairs and Health.

Finnish Associations of Student Housing Organisations (SOA) is a national promoter of the interests of student housing organisations and of cooperation between them. SAMOK is a member of SOA. SAMOK collaborates with SOA especially in the context of student housing.

The Finnish Student Health Service (FSHS) is responsible for the provision of primary health care, mental health services and oral health care for undergraduate students enrolled in Finnish universities. SAMOK works in close cooperation with the FSHS to promote student welfare.
International affairs

ESN Finland is a national student organisation working towards international student mobility. ESN Finland consists of 17 local branches covering the whole of the country. SAMOK collaborates with ESN Finland on international affairs.

Eurooppalainen Suomi (‘European Finland’) is the umbrella organisation of Finland’s pro-European movement and a member of European Movement International (EMI), which has offices in 34 countries. SAMOK is a member of the Finnish branch.

Eurooppanuoret (‘Pro-European Youth’) is a non-governmental organisation of young people under the age of 29 years that promotes a positive attitude towards the European Union and internationalism. SAMOK collaborates with the organisation on EU affairs.

The European Students’ Union (ESU) is the umbrella organisation of national unions of students from 40 countries. SAMOK is a member of the ESU. We contribute actively to the work of the ESU and lobby for better European student policy.

Finnish Development NGOs Fingo ry is an umbrella organisation for Finnish development organisations. SAMOK is a member of Fingo.

SAMOK is a member of Nordiskt Ordförande Møte (NOM, ‘Nordic Presidential Meeting’), which provides a collaboration platform for Nordic and Baltic national student organisations. NOM convenes biannually, and SAMOK is an active contributor.

Pohjola-Nordenin Nuorisoliitto (PNN, ‘Youth League of the Finnish Norden’) is a nonpartisan youth organisation with the objective of promoting Nordic cooperation and bringing Nordic youth together. SAMOK is a member of PNN.

The Ministry for Foreign Affairs promotes the security and welfare of Finland and the Finns and works for a safer and fairer world. The Ministry for Foreign Affairs helps to fund SAMOK’s efforts to disseminate information about the EU and sponsors the Students at Risk project, which SAMOK coordinates in collaboration with the National Union of University Students in Finland (SYL).
Labour market organisations, confederations and their student associations as well as other labour market affairs

The Confederation of Unions for Professional and Managerial Staff in Finland (Akava) has 36 member unions. Akava’s mission is to ensure that its members succeed and enjoy their careers. SAMOK collaborates with Akava in the context of, for example, labour market affairs.

Akava Students is a subdivision of Akava that promotes the interests of students and recent graduates. SAMOK collaborates with Akava Students in the context of, for example, labour market affairs and in connection with events.

The Confederation of Finnish Industries (EK) is the leading business advocacy organisation in Finland. SAMOK is a member of EK. SAMOK also collaborates with EK in the context of education policy.

The Union of Professional Engineers in Finland (IL) is an Akava affiliate with 70,000 members through its member organisations. IL members include engineers, engineering students and other experts in the field of technology. SAMOK collaborates with IL in connection with, for example, events and advocacy.

The Union of Engineering Students (IOL) is the national guardian of the interests of engineering students in Finland and IL’s largest member organisation. SAMOK collaborates with IOL in connection with, for example, events and advocacy.

The Trade Union for the Public and Welfare Sectors (JHL) is Finland’s largest trade union for public-sector workers and welfare professionals. SAMOK collaborates with JHL in connection with, for example, events and advocacy.

The Trade Union of Education in Finland (OAJ) is an Akava affiliate and the official guardian of the interests of teachers in Finland. SAMOK collaborates with OAJ in the context of, for example, labour market affairs and advocacy.

Service Sector Employers (PALTA) is a business and trade union for the Finnish service sector. SAMOK is a member of PALTA and works in close collaboration with PALTA in the context of collective bargaining in particular.

Trade Union Pro is the largest private-sector member of the Finnish Confederation of Professionals (STTK). SAMOK collaborates with Trade Union Pro in connection with, for example, events and advocacy.

Pro-opiskelijat ry is the student division of Trade Union Pro. It advocates better working conditions, pay and other terms of employment for its members and promotes equality and the status of its members in the labour market, in education and in society during their studies and any work they perform as students. SAMOK collaborates with Pro-opiskelijat ry in connection with, for example, events and advocacy.

The Central Organisation of Finnish Trade Unions (SAK) is the largest labour market organisation in Finland, representing approximately one million Finns. SAK is a confederation of 17 trade unions in industry, the public sector, transport, private services and culture. SAMOK collaborates with SAK in the context of, for example, labour market affairs.

The Finnish Federation for Social Affairs and Health (SOSTE) is a national umbrella organisation of Finnish social welfare and health care organisations. It brings together more than 230 organisations in the social and health sector as well as dozens of other partners to build the prerequisites for social wealth, health, opportunities for participation and a fair, responsible society. SAMOK collaborates with SOSTE in the context of advocacy.

The Finnish Confederation of Professionals (STTK) is a politically independent and diverse organisation of trained professionals in Finland. It consists of 13 member unions and has around 500,000 members in total. SAMOK collaborates with STTK in the context of, for example, labour market affairs and in connection with events.

STTK Students is a subdivision of STTK. It plays an active role in society through advocacy, participation, expressing opinions and disseminating information. STTK Students also works to educate students and young people about the labour market. SAMOK collaborates with STTK Students in the context of, for example, labour market affairs and in connection with events.

The Teacher Student Union of Finland (SOOL) is a national advocacy and service organisation for student teachers. SAMOK collaborates with SOOL in the context of advocacy.

Sure – Suomen Restonomiliitto ry is an Akava affiliate founded in October 2000 to promote the interests of hospitality management professionals in Finland. SAMOK collaborates with the organisation in the context of, for example, advocacy.

Sureo – Restonomiopiskelijaliitto provides guidance and support to Finnish hospitality management students and safeguards their interests. SAMOK collaborates with the organisation in the context of advocacy.

The Union of Professional Social Workers (Talentia) represents more than 26,000 social services professionals in Finland. SAMOK collaborates with Talentia in the context of advocacy.

The Union of Health and Social Care Professionals in Finland (Tehy) is a leading Finnish trade union for social services, health care and education professionals. It has more than 160,000 members, approximately half of whom are nurses. SAMOK collaborates with Tehy in the context of, for example, labour market affairs and in connection with events.

The Finnish Pension Alliance (TELA) represents the interests of Finland’s statutory pension providers. SAMOK collaborates with TELA in the context of pensions.

Professionals of Business and Technology (TRAL) is an Akava affiliate and a guardian of the interests of business and technology professionals and students in Finland. Members must hold, or be studying towards, a BBA or an MBA. SAMOK collaborates with TRAL in the context of, for example, advocacy and in connection with events.

Students of Business and Technology is an independent member of TRAL and a guardian of the interests of BBA students. SAMOK collaborates with the organisation in the context of, for example, advocacy and in connection with events.
National student organisations

The Swedish-speaking School-student Union of Finland (FSS) represents the interests of Finland’s Swedish-speaking students. SAMOK collaborates with FSS in the context of, for example, transitions from upper secondary school to higher education.

The Finnish Student Sports Federation (OLL) is a national advocacy and service organisation working for the betterment of Finnish student sports. OLL was founded in 1924, and it represents all Finnish higher education students. SAMOK works in close cooperation with OLL.

The National Union of Vocational Students in Finland (SAKKI) is a student organisation established in 1987 for those pursuing a vocational degree in upper secondary education. SAMOK collaborates with SAKKI in the context of, for example, transitions from upper secondary school to higher education.

The Union of Upper Secondary School Students is a nonpartisan, religiously independent national service and activity provider as well as an advocate of the interests of upper secondary school students in Finland. SAMOK collaborates with the organisation in the context of, for example, transitions from upper secondary school to higher education.

The Finnish National Youth Council (Allianssi) is a politically and religiously independent national service and advocacy organisation for the youth sector. SAMOK is a member of Allianssi.

The Union of Local Youth Councils in Finland (Nuva) is an organisation established in 1998 to create better opportunities for youth councils and other young people’s associations to work together to promote the interests of young people and play an active role in society and political decision-making. SAMOK collaborates with Nuva in the context of advocacy.

Suomen Opiskelija-Allianssi (OSKU) is a student and youth organisation set up by vocational school students for vocational school students. SAMOK collaborates with OSKU in the context of, for example, transitions from upper secondary school to higher education.

The National Union of University Students in Finland (SYL) is a non-governmental organisation representing the interests of a total of approximately 135,000 undergraduate and postgraduate students in Finnish universities. SAMOK works in close cooperation with SYL in the context of advocacy in particular.
Others

The Timeout Foundation was established to move the discussion culture in Finland in a more constructive direction, reduce the entrenchment of society and increase people’s participation in society together with other parties interested in dialogue. SAMOK is an advocate of the Timeout approach.

Helsinki Pride is an annual human rights event hosted by the Helsinki Pride Community in Helsinki the week after Midsummer. SAMOK takes part in Helsinki Pride each year.

The National Church Council is one of the central administrative bodies of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Finland and responsible for the coordination of the administration, finances and operation of the Church. SAMOK collaborates with the National Church Council in the context of, for example, the provision of pastoral care in schools.

Seta ry is a non-governmental human rights organisation that advocates equal rights in society regardless of sexual orientation, gender identity or gender expression. SAMOK is a supporting member of Seta ry.

The Swedish Cultural Foundation in Finland is an organisation dedicated to supporting and promoting the culture and education of Finland’s Swedish-speaking minority through the provision of grants to individuals, working groups and organisations for educational and cultural purposes and activities. SAMOK has received a general grant from the Swedish Cultural Foundation in Finland.

The Family Federation of Finland is a national expert organisation in the social and health sector that conducts research on the Finnish population and families, lobbies for better population and family policy, promotes sexual health and sexual rights and disseminates information on these issues. SAMOK is a member of the Family Federation of Finland.
