News: SAMOK’s adjustment measures have been decided

SAMOK’s Board of Directors has decided on the adjustment measures at its meeting this morning.

Adjustments are based on changes in the operating environment and economic reasons. Cost increases combined with lower than expected project funding and cooperation income, among other things, have led to the need for adjustments. The aim of these measures is to ensure the future viability of the Union.

Most of the adjustment measures will take the form of temporary cuts in operating costs and additional revenue, but also cuts in staff costs. Staff will be put on a furlough for a week in December, in addition to an indefinite furlough of one person. There will also be a temporary cut in employment benefits.

“The last few weeks have been difficult, and now is the time to take time to recover. I would like to thank the workers and the board for the solutions that were quickly found to avoid more difficult decisions,” says Vellu Taskila, Executive Director of SAMOK.

Despite the adjustment measures, efforts are being made to ensure that the union is able to carry out its tasks of lobbying for students at universities of applied sciences and serving its member organisations and student bodies.

“Fundraising is being sharpened, supporting members are being recruited and project funding is being sought more vigorously. The aim is to ensure that the Union’s financial capacity is strengthened,” says Vellu Taskila.
