Press release: Selmi Holopainen appointed as substitute Senior Education Policy Adviser

The National Union of Students in Finnish Universities of Applied Sciences – SAMOK has appointed Selmi Holopainen as substitute Senior Education Policy Adviser to cover a parental leave. The work will commence on 26 October 2026, and the fixed-term position will last until January 2028.

“It is a great joy to return to the student movement to promote the position of students together with SAMOK’s fantastic team. I am particularly excited about next spring’s parliamentary elections, which are extremely important from the perspective of education and students,” Holopainen rejoices over the appointment.

Holopainen has previously worked, among other roles, as the substitute Executive Director of Kesälukioseura ry (Summer High School Association), Special Adviser to the Minister of Education, and President of Left Students. By education, Holopainen holds a Master of Social Sciences.

“In the upcoming spring elections, it is important to highlight the intrinsic value of education and its significance in building a better society. It is therefore fantastic to get an expert like Selmi on the SAMOK team to support this joint effort,” says SAMOK’s Executive Director Aleksi Niemi.
