National Union of Students in Finnish Universities of Applied Sciences – SAMOK’s President of the Board for 2025 has been elected. Julia Väänänen from the Students’ Union of Tampere University of Applied Sciences Tamko was elected president of the union. Väänänen is a nursing student and chaired the board of the student union Tamko this year.
“I would like to thank the General Assembly for its confidence! The situation for students is historically bad, and I am ready to continue the extremely important work started by my predecessors. I look forward to working with the student unions, the people of SAMOK and the stakeholders!” says newly elected 2025 President Julia Väänänen.
Sanja Laitinen-Lindelöf (The Student Union of Diaconia University of Applied Sciences – O’Diako) was elected as vice-president of the board. In addition, the General Assembly, which met for two days in Jyväskylä, elected three board members. Ilona Hirvonen (The Student Union of Haaga-Helia – Helga), Taru Kyllönen (The Student Union of Oulu University of Applied Sciences OSAKO) and Elina Liekkinen (Student Union of Humak University of Applied Science HUMAKO) were elected to board members.
During Thursday and Friday, the General Assembly adopted, among other things, the action plan and budget for next year, the new strategy and the policy paper on student selection and open university of applied sciences education. The policy paper on student housing was also noted. The new board will start its work in January 2024 at SAMOK’s office in Helsinki.
