Suvi Savola is a candidate for the SAMOK vice president and board member for 2026.
Suvi is from SAMMAKKO, the student union of Satakunta University of Applied Sciences, and has served this year as vice chair of SAMMAKKO’s board.
Why are you running for the SAMOK’s Board?
I’m applying to SAMOK’s board because I want to strengthen students’ position nationwide. I truly care about every student’s wellbeing. I also want to grow as a leader and as a professional.
The responsibilities and combinations of responsibilities on the SAMOK Board vary from year to year. Which areas of responsibility are of primary interest to you? And what are your secondary interests? Please explain.
Primarily international students and organizational relations, as I want to strengthen inclusion and diversity. I’m also interested in communications from an accessibility perspective.
Responsibilities are also divided among the presidency in different ways depending on the year. What issues would you be particularly interested in in the Bureau’s area of responsibility?
I’m primarily interested in political leadership and advocacy. I want to promote students’ position, increase inclusion, and develop my own leadership.
What kind of networks do you have and what kind of networker are you?
I am an active networker, having worked closely with student associations, connected with companies in Satakunta, and built ties with other student unions. I enjoy engaging with diverse people and value hearing many perspectives.
What kind of political lobbying experience do you have? For example, experience in lobbying.
I have experience in lobbying and advocating for student interests. I’ve attended meetings, presented viewpoints to decision-makers, and contributed to decisions regarding education and student wellbeing.
What kind of leadership experience do you have and what kind of leader do you aspire to be?
I have leadership experience from student association and student union boards, as well as supervisory roles in working life. I strive to be fair, supportive, and helpful, while trusting others and giving space to grow.
Tell us why you should be elected to the SAMOK Board.
I should be selected because I bring leadership and advocacy experience. I am collaborative, a problem solver, and ready to actively promote students’ interests.
What else would you like to tell us?
I approach my work professionally but with a relaxed attitude. I’m not a finished package, but I’m always ready to learn, develop myself, and bring positive energy to board work. I also want to inspire others, promote collaboration, and strengthen student participation.
I was in PoResto ry as a board member, vice chair, and chair. I also acted as a peer tutor for the international tourism class for two academic years, one year as the corresponding tutor for all tourism students.
