Taru Kyllönen

Taru Kyllönen is a candidate for the SAMOK board for 2025.

Taru is from OSAKO, the student union of Oulu University of Applied Sciences, and has served this year as President of OSAKO’s representative council.

Why are you running for the SAMOK’s Board?

I feel like I still have a lot to give to the student community. Applying to SAMOK has been my goal for a couple of years, and now the time feels right.

The responsibilities and combinations of responsibilities on the SAMOK Board vary from year to year. Which areas of responsibility are of primary interest to you? And what are your secondary interests? Please explain.

I am particularly interested in working with SAMOK’s communications and issues related to student welfare. As a communications student, it would be both fun and beneficial for me to manage communications.

What kind of networks do you have and what kind of networker are you?

What kind of political lobbying experience do you have? For example, experience in lobbying.

My national political advocacy experience is limited to my year on the OSAKO board, during which I had the opportunity to participate in parliamentary election campaigning from a student perspective. Additionally, in the youth council, we aimed to influence municipal politics.

What kind of leadership experience do you have and what kind of leader do you aspire to be?

Tell us why you should be elected to the SAMOK Board.

I want to do everything I can to make students heard in political decisions. One of my strengths is also working together with others and I believe that I would get along well with SAMOK colleagues and representatives of stakeholder group.

What else would you like to tell us?

I ended up to the body of representatives on my first year of studying. Thanks to my background in the youth council and scouting, getting involved in the student union felt easy. After two years in the representative body I spent a year in the board of OSAKO and I was responsible for social politics.
