Petra is from the Student Union of LAB University of Applied Sciences KOE, and has this year served as a member of the KOE Representative Council and Vice-Chair of the Central Election Committee.
Why are you running for the SAMOK’s Board?
I am running for the SAMOK board to promote the union’s equal and accessible operations. I want to safeguard the interests of students, even during economically challenging times. I am particularly interested in education policy and international student policy.
The responsibilities and combinations of responsibilities on the SAMOK Board vary from year to year. Which areas of responsibility are of primary interest to you? And what are your secondary interests? Please explain.
In the SAMOK board, I am particularly interested in working with education policy and international student policy. Secondarily, I am also interested in social and welfare policy. However, I am more than happy to take on all responsibilities and challenges.
What kind of networks do you have and what kind of networker are you?
I have an extensive network spanning student associations, professional life, and political circles. These networks have an impact both locally in my hometown of Lahti, as well as nationally and internationally. By nature, I am a strong networker, and I strive to expand my networks whenever the opportunity arises. I view strong networks as an especially useful tool in life.
What kind of political lobbying experience do you have? For example, experience in lobbying.
My experience in political advocacy is mainly from within my hometown of Lahti. I gained much of this experience last year during the parliamentary elections, where as a student union, we were able to bring candidates closer to the students. I have also been involved in introducing candidates to our students through interviews during the presidential elections.
What kind of leadership experience do you have and what kind of leader do you aspire to be?
I have leadership experience from student associations, professional life, hobbies, as well as from serving in the Defense Forces. As a leader, I strive to be a firm yet compassionate listener who treats people as equals and leads by my own example.
Tell us why you should be elected to the SAMOK Board.
I am a creative, responsible, and hardworking addition to SAMOK’s board, with a strong belief in the potential of action and development. I have concrete proposals for improvement and a passion for achieving common goals through collaboration and continuous development.
What else would you like to tell us?
I am Petra Tarula, a third-year Hospitality Management student and an active organization member at LAB University of Applied Sciences. I have extensive experience in student activities, particularly in ReLa ry and the KOE student union board. I am organized, responsible, and able to handle pressure. My exchange studies have strengthened my interest in international advocacy.
Good luck and all the best to every candidate with your campaigning, and see you at the general assembly! Thank you to the candidate support team and the rest of the current SAMOK board and staff for the important work you do.
