Justus Kalliokoski is a candidate for the President of the SAMOKs Board for 2026.
Justus is from Metka, The Student Union of Metropolia University of Applied Sciences, and has served this year as chair of the Metka board.
Why are you running for the SAMOK’s Board?
I am applying to SAMOK because I want to continue advocating for students at the national level and ensure that students’ voices are heard in decision-making. I will bring to SAMOK my experience from student organizations as well as my determination to promote wellbeing, livelihood, and equality.
Responsibilities are also divided among the presidency in different ways depending on the year. What issues would you be particularly interested in in the Bureau’s area of responsibility?
I am particularly interested in political advocacy, implementing SAMOK’s political program, coordinating the work of the board, and representing the organization in national negotiations.
What kind of networks do you have and what kind of networker are you?
My networks are strongest within my own school and the student unions in the Helsinki metropolitan area. I have built solid connections with my professional union, Tehy, and its umbrella organization, STTK. As a networker, I am open, approachable, and eager to further strengthen these relationships.
What kind of political lobbying experience do you have? For example, experience in lobbying.
I have had the opportunity to influence students’ position in various settings, such as internal meetings at my school and by participating in Tehy’s educational policy working group, often serving as the only student representative. In these roles, I have been actively bringing forward students’ perspectives.
What kind of leadership experience do you have and what kind of leader do you aspire to be?
I have several years of experience leading various organizations as a chairperson. I strive to be a listening and inclusive leader who creates a safe environment and supports others in succeeding. I believe in clear communication, jointly agreed goals and leading by example.
Tell us why you should be elected to the SAMOK Board.
I should be chosen because I bring experience from student organizations, my own networks, a committed work ethic, and genuine enthusiasm to promote students’ wellbeing and make an impact at the national level.
What else would you like to tell us?
The student movement is more than a role for me. It is a place where I can combine my interests in advocacy, wellbeing, and collaboration. I want to make a tangible impact, bring new perspectives, and strengthen students’ voices. I bring to SAMOK my experience, perseverance, and genuine interest in listening and working together with others.
The student movement has been my home and my passion, and I want to give it even more. Along with my experience, I will bring to SAMOK enthusiasm, perseverance, and a genuine desire to improve students’ everyday lives.
